Letters of Recommendation

You need to get two (2) letters of recommendation. The deadline is May 13, 2011

You must ask someone who knows you and can say positive things to write a short letter about you. The letter should be typed on paper. It must have a date and a signature.

1. One letter should be from a Lincoln High School staff person who knows you well.

2. A second letter should be from someone outside of Lincoln High School.
For example, ask your boss from your job,
your neighbor,
an adult friend,
a church leader.

Make a copy of each letter. Put the letters (and the copies) in a notebook.

If the person writing the letter is not sure what to say, show them this example:

-----Sample Letter of Recommendation for Mary Persaud-----

February 25, 2011

I am happy to recommend Mary Persaud. I have lived next door to Mary and her family for the past five years and I know her very well.

Mary is a very friendly young woman with a positive attitude. She is always polite and helpful to children and adults on our street. For example, when my elderly mother was visiting me, Mary, who was outside, noticed her leaving a taxi. She came over to carry my mother's suitcase.

When my children got a new pet, Mary spent time showing them how to be gentle with kittens.

Because Mary is trustworthy, we gave her a key to our house to use when we go away on vacation. Mary is very responsible about bringing in mail and packages and shoveling snow off of the steps.

I think Mary Persaud will be a very good student at college and a good worker on the job. You are welcome to phone me if you want more information.

Sincerely,

Charlene Brown
